General Dynamics announces its new generation tank AbramsX

General Dynamics will present the next-generation main battle tank AbramsX at the US Army Annual Meeting and Exhibition.

General Dynamics will present its new solutions at the U.S. Army Annual Meeting and Exhibition, scheduled for October 10-12, 2022 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington DC. As reported by General Dynamics, the event will introduce new solutions and products such as the AbramsX main battle tank, the StrykerX and Stryker Leonidas armored combat vehicles, and the TRX Breacher SPG.

AbramsX main battle tank

A next-generation main battle tank, the AbramsX features improved mobility and reduced weight for portability. With 50% less fuel consumption, the tank offers the same tactical range as the M1A2 Abrams. AbramsX’s hybrid power package supports the US Army’s climate and electrification strategies. (In February 2022, the U.S. Army announced its ambitious plans in its first climate strategy document, which includes halving carbon emissions by 2030 and reaching net zero status by 2050.)

In this context, the hybrid power package improves silent monitoring capability. Also, the power pack provides silent movement to the tank. With reduced crew size, AI-assisted lethality, survivability, mobility, manned/unmanned teaming (MUM-T), and autonomous capabilities, AbramsX provides the user with key capabilities on the deadly battlefield.

As reported by The War Zone, AbramsX will feature several new weapon systems and sensors, including the 30mm Kongsberg Protector RS6 RCWS mounted above its main body. In this context, it is reported that the tank has a 120 mm gun. It is stated that the Trophy active protection system, which the US Army has tested on existing M1 Abrams tanks in recent years, will also be found in the AbramsX tank.
