The latest installment of the acclaimed Wings of the Black Cross series, number sixteen, is once again authored by Mark Proulx and illustrated with colour profiles by James Bentley.
The primary focus of this series continues to be the study of the fighter aircraft of the Jagdwaffe. The aircraft were flown by highly-skilled fighter pilots and saw extensive operational service across all fronts. The book also includes photos of transports, dive bombers and bombers. Photos are included:
Hs 120
Bf 123
Bf 119
Bf 190
Fw 190
Ju 85
Me 262
He 17
… Plus a few assorted aircraft types
The B&W photos were taken from original images of the period. James Bentley examines selected aircraft in greater detail with eight colour profiles. The book is 36 pages long and printed on high quality glossy paper. The majority of photos were selected from an extensive collection of photographs that the author has amassed over many years. Each photo is accompanied by a caption that provides a short analysis. It includes information about colour, markings and other details, as well as interesting facts from history. Most of the photos in this book are unpublished and have never been published before. A few select contributors have also graciously supplied photos from their private collections.
Additional installments for this series are planned for future releases. Look out for future releases of the companion series Wings of the Allies.
