Special Hobby 1/72 Heinkel He 162A Spatz ‘Captured Birds’
Special Hobby has made available their 1:72 scale He 162 model with new decals depicting the aircraft in Allied possession.
The Heinkel He 162A Spatz, also known as the “Volksjäger” or “People’s Fighter”, was a German jet-powered fighter aircraft that was developed during the final stages of World War II as part of the “Volksjaeger” program. Despite being one of the many “Wunderwaffen” or “Wonder Weapons” that the Third Reich had hoped would turn the tide of the war, the Spatz ultimately failed to make a significant impact.
When the war came to an end, the jet-engine powered aircraft of the Luftwaffe became highly sought after by the Allies. Among these, the Spatz jets were the most numerous and were captured in large numbers. These small yet powerful aircraft were then taken to the USA, UK, France, and the USSR, where they were thoroughly tested and evaluated by the respective militaries.
With a highly detailed and well-crafted kit, the parts offer a perfect fit and are now joined by a sheet of decals that feature markings of machines test-flown in all the mentioned countries. This kit is perfect for modelers who are looking for a challenging and rewarding build experience.
