Guideline Publications published Warpaint No.145, a painting on Hunting-Percival pembroke and Sea Prince.
The Pembroke was developed from an idea that Lord Brabazon had sponsored towards the end World War II. He chaired the committee which assessed the Civil Aviation requirements following the end hostilities and made recommendations for several civil aircraft specifications required for Britain to remain competitive for domestic and export sales. Percival produced a twin-engined aircraft called Mer-ganser, which was introduced in 1947. In 1950, the Prince emerged. It was immediately snapped up as no similar aircraft was available at that time. Royal Navy ordered the aircraft as an early communications plane and saw its potential as a training navigation. Percival quickly assessed that the extended nose was suitable for equipment such as radar. The Royal Navy, which named the Sea Prince aircraft, ordered four C.2s, a transport variant of the Sea Prince T1, and 41 T.1s for anti-submarine and navigation training. Seeing this, the RAF ordered 45 of these types, naming them ‘Pembroke.’ The last one was finished in February 1958. Pembrokes served as a light transport, a communications aircraft and acted also as aviator trainers. By Adrian Balch
