The Subject:
Liaoning, China’s first aircraft carrier, was originally built in the 1980s in a Ukrainian shipyard as part of the Soviet project 1143.6. Construction stalled after the dissolution of the USSR due to lack of funds, and Russia decided to abandon the vessel in 1995. It was initially sold to China for a much reduced price with the intention of converting it into a floating gambling casino. However, it was eventually handed over to the Chinese Navy, which completed and modified the original design.
