Dunsterforce was an Allied military force, established in December 1917 and named after its commander, Major-General Lionel Dunsterville. It consisted of less than 350 Australians, New Zealanders, British, and Canadian officers, NCOs and soldiers from Western and Mesopotamian Fronts. This force was created to organize local units to fight the Ottoman army in Armenia. The Russians also occupied the northern part of Iran along with Britain’s occupation of the southern half, in order to form a barrier to stop Germans and Ottoman agents reaching Central Asia. Afghanistan, and India. In response to Russian feedback, the Series 3 armoured car was improved and made into a 1918 model. The British Army did not use the Series 1 and 2 or the Series 3’s first version, which were sent to Russia. Due to the October Revolution, the improved Series 3 was never shipped to Russia. 70 cars were ordered. The British government absorbed the completed cars. The completed cars were taken to Cardiff Docks and sent by Dunsterforce and 17th Battalion Tank Corps for use in France and Ireland. Dunsterforce received 24 cars and the rest were taken by the 17th Battalion of the Tank Corps. The unit operated there from February 1918 until November 1918 in cooperation with white Russians and at least once with bolsheviks (!).
