NEW BOOK: A-6 Intruder & EA-6B Prowler
Guideline Publications now takes pre-orders for a new Warpaint Book: Grumman A-6 Intruder & EA-6BProwler
Pre Order Warpaint no.146 Grumman A-6 Intruder and EA-6B prowler by Andy Evans
The US Navy’s experience during the Korean War demonstrated the need for an aircraft that would penetrate enemy defences, find and destroy smaller targets in all weather conditions and have a high subsonic performance. Grumman A-6 Intruder, a real bomb truck, was built with these requirements in mind. The Intruder has proven its worth in the jungles and deserts of Iraq, being able to carry a variety of weapons. The Intruder was the basis for the KA-6D tanker, EA-6A Intruder, and EA-6B Prowler. Both the Navy and Marine Corps used the Prowler. VA-34, the Blue Blasters retired the Navy’s A-6E Intruders on February 28, 1997 after nearly 37 years and 693 airframes. The Navy retired their Prowlers back in 2015. However, the Marine Corps continued to fly the EA-6B until the first months of 2019. Warpaint 146 is packed full of all the usual historical and reference material, with walkarounds of both Prowler and Intruder, colour artwork by Sam Pearson, and a well-paced narrative that places this essential aircraft in context and show-cases its role in US naval operations over nearly sixty years.
