Operation Barbarossa was Germany’s surprise attack on the Soviet Union, in June 1941. Its goal? To destroy communist Russia within a few months. The Germans were at their best during this period, but events in the campaign led to the downfall of the Third Reich. The maps depict the layout of the battlefront and major Axis formations as understood by German intelligence. They also show Soviet deployments and movement. These maps come with a commentary that summarizes and analyzes the depicted operations, tracking the daily progress of fighting on the Eastern Front.
