Panzerwrecks: Defending Normandy Vol. 1A
The much anticipated Defending of Normandy Vol.1A by Niels Henkemans is now out.
The battle to clear the peninsula continued well into July. Cherbourg, a vital port city, was liberated by the end of June. However the fight to free the Cotentin peninsula continued into July. The German forces that were involved in the battle have not been studied adequately. Niels Henkemans reconstructs this battle from the perspective of those units that were involved by analysing German accounts, German records and Allied Intelligence. A.K. A.K. The series also looks at infantry divisions, in general, and in particular two during the battles of the summer 1944. The series gives a more in-depth look at the battles than a campaign can. Vol.1B will continue with four more divisions.
Defending Normandy offers the reader unprecedented detail on the formations discussed. Each unit’s organization, equipment, history of the invasion, and role in Cotentin is scrutinised. This unique, unit-based study of the Cotentin Campaign is accompanied by dozens of photographs and maps.
