The Czechoslovak L-39 Albatros jet was the standard trainer of the Warsaw Pact and was exported to many Third World countries. At the same time, the L-39ZA version was used as a light attack and combat plane. This version received a reinforced wing with suspension points for transported armament and a 23-mm GŠ-23 double-barreled cannon under the fuselage.

But, after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact bloc, the L-39 is still used even in the new NATO member states. The avionics of the machines used in the Czech and Slovak Republics were modernized. Modernized machines were also exported. One of the largest export orders was the delivery to Thailand of the modernized version of the L-39ZA/ART.
