The Subject: The Leopard 2 A-RC3.0

The Leopard 2A-RC is a cutting-edge variant of the German Leopard 2 main battle tank & has been developed by the French-German defence conglomerate KNDS. The unmanned turret of this advanced tank significantly improves the crew’s protection and combat abilities. This variant will be shown at Eurosatory in 2024. It features an unmanned gun turret with a smoothbore 120 mm cannon, but it could also have a 140 mm or 130 mm. An image of a real tank that looks very similar to the box art…

The modular linear autoloader in the turret can load up three rounds within 10 seconds. A 30x113mm anti-drone cannon and an antitank missile are included in the secondary armament. Its protective system is made up of a smoke-grenade launcher and an active protection system. The vehicle weighs less than 60 tons, is 7.95 meters long, and can be extended to 11 metres when the barrel is attached. The width of the vehicle is 3.77 meters, while its height is 24.4 metres. Three members of the crew are located within the chassis: a commander, driver and gunner. This reduces targetable area by up to 30%. It is powered by a 1,500 horsepower engine that allows it to travel at speeds up to 65 km/hr and cover 460km. It is an innovative variant which retains the tracked chassis of the main battle tank while adding an unmanned, unmanned turret. The design of the 2A-RC 3.00 variant is a modular one, allowing it to be equipped with guns in various calibres. It also reduces its profile, enhancing crew safety. This autoloader can fire three rounds within 10 seconds and outperforms tanks that have four crew members. The armament set is configurable for both direct line-of-sight (3DLOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) engagements.

The Leopard 2A-RC 3.0 is a lean and mean fighting machine, weighing less than 60 tonnes, depending on the configuration. The Leopard 2A RC has an unmanned turret and autoloader similar to that of the AbramsX tank demonstration and Russian T-14 Armata MBT. However, it still needs to address the shortcomings seen in Soviet/Russian-design tanks that employed the similar system, such as the infamous “jack-in-the-box” of exploding turrets…

The kit from Amusing Hobby:

This new kit, number #35A058 from Amusing Hobby, captures the lines of this very new Leopard type, the Leopard 2 A-RC3.0. There are some things that may not make it into service, as the tank is still a new design. The kit is missing some information. Check out their entire kit line at

, as their site does not appear to be functioning right now.
