Complementing our Wings of the Black Cross series is Wings of the Allies, The European Air War, Volume One with more to follow. This book, like the “Wings of the Black Cross”, is written and researched by Mark Proulx. It also includes eight color profiles created by James Bentley. Mark Proulx, a photographer who has spent over 30 years collecting photos of World War II pilots in their planes. His wartime collection captures the story of the German Luftwaffe during the Second World War. Mark’s ongoing Wings of the Black Cross releases are familiar to many readers. These photographs were gathered against the Luftwaffe during Fortress Europe. Eagle Editions Ltd. LLC has agreed that the photographs should be made public. They have therefore decided to publish the book as part of a limited edition series entitled Wings of the Allies – The European Air War. These books feature aircraft that were flown by Britain, the United States and Russia during World War II. The books will include aircraft from all four theaters of World War II: European, Russian and North African.
A wide range of World War II Allied planes is shown, including fighters, bombers and fighter-bombers. More specifically in this initial volume:
P-47 Thunderbolt
P-51 Mustang
I-16 Rata
LaGG-3
MiG-3
Yak-3
Hawker Hurricane
Supermarine Spitfire
Hawker Typhoon and Tempest
de Havilland Mosquito
A-20 Havoc
B-25 Mitchell
A-26 Invader
B-26 Marauder
Tupolev SB-2
Ilyushin DB-3
B-17 Flying Fortress
B-24 Liberator
Handley Page Halifax
At the finish of each book, there will be a brief section titled, “A Closer Look”. Author will give a detailed look at specific aircraft, squadrons or groups that are of interest. The first batch of photos includes B-24s from the famous Ploesti raid (Operation Tidal Wave), which took place on 1 August 1943. The photos are all originals, without any computer-adjusted imagery or colourization. The majority are previously unpublished, and here they appear for the very first time. Several contributors generously shared photos taken from their own private collection. Each photo is supported with detailed captions.
Additional installments for this series are planned for future releases.
