The Sturmgeschutz III (StuG III) was one of vehicles produced by Germany during WWII. The chassis was taken from the Panzer III. It was originally designed as a tank to support infantry, but due to the low-profile and high quality of its cannon it began playing a role in tank destruction. It was the tank that Germany produced the most during World War II (10,000 units). This tank played a role in conventional tank warfare. Sturmgeschutz tanks are also known for their good profit to price ratio. Four crewmembers operated the StuG. The StuG III was used by Germany, Italy Finland Spain and Syria. These three latter countries retained their StuG IIIs far beyond 1945, being used for example in the Six Day War (1967) by Syria.
