The format is similar to our previous F-16 books, but the printing is better and the paper quality is higher. This is noticeable in this title and our F-105. The Red series begins with a comprehensive history of the U-2, from its original top secret U-2A. Many of the illustrations in this section have never been published before. Then we move on to an in-depth walkaround of the current U-2S, complete with lumps and bumps.
This is followed by a selection of colour profiles that show that not all U-2s are black and this section also includes a profile of the Dodge Charger Chase Car that are used to assist the pilot on landing.
Next, we have a gallery of photographs taken of all of the operational U-2S aircraft when they have passed through RAF Lakenheath. This is an interesting study to modelers in terms of how different shades of black can be found at almost scale distance. None of these aircraft are all one color. In 1/72, the author models the Hobbyboss U-2A. We will be including a QR code for a digital upgrade in the Red Series. This allows you to access an exclusive website where we’ll feature the builds, accessories and artwork we plan on featuring in future PAM issues as well as new photos or artwork as this type leaves service. We already have a build of the new Hobbyboss U-2S that will feature in Julys issue which will be uploaded after the magazine has gone off sale.
In my honest opinion this is the best book we have produced to date and if you have any interest in the U-2 this is a must have for your bookshelf.
