By the time World War II broke out, the British Air Ministry had issued a request for two types fighter aircraft. One was light-weight with machine gun armament while the other featured heavy cannons. The machine gun-armed Hurricanes, Spitfires, and Westland’s Whirlwind twin engined “Cannon Fighter” were developed to meet these requirements. The type was produced in over 100 examples, and production continued until the Peregrine engine shortage halted it. The Whirlwinds flew over the English Channel on fighter and ground-attack missions. The Whirlwinds, which were equipped with bomb racks for the latter missions and designated FB Mk.I. Only in 1944 were they replaced by Typhoons. The Fighter-Bomber Whirlwind comes with two styrene parts and one clear part.
