The M43 “Bassotto”, a 105/25 self-propelled gun, was developed by Italian industry in order to improve the offensive capabilities for armored vehicles as well as self-propelled artillery. The M43 was built on a modified, widened and lowered chassis from the M15/42 and equipped with a mounted Ansaldo howitzer. The armor and shielding on the front were also upgraded. In 1943, it was put into limited service and participated in the Italian front. It is considered to be the most powerful Italian armored vehicles used in World War II. Due to its balance between mobility and firepower, it was effective both offensively and defensively.
