It was at the end of the 1942 that a German heavy armored tank with a powerful main cannon and extra thick armor first appeared on North African front. The Tiger I Ausf was the long-awaited tank by German soldiers who fought hard against the Allies. E. The Tiger I’s development began towards the end of May 1942. The German Army Weapons Branch instructed the Henschel company to compete with Porsche for production of a prototype. The first prototypes were tested in April 1942. These and other trials showed that the Henschel vehicle was superior to Porsche’s and production orders were made for it. Henschel’s prototype was equipped with thick armor, 100mm in front and 80mm both sides. The main gun, which was then the most powerful, was the 8cm KwK 36 L/56. 8cm KwK36 L/56. Maybach’s HL 210P45 engine, delivering 650 horsepower, was used. The prototype was largely unchanged in August 1942, and mass production began. Air pre-cleaners on the rear hull plates were added starting in November 1942. In December, the mantlet had been strengthened in part and five “S” mines dischargers mounted around the hull’s roof. A loader’s periscope, which was installed in January 1943, is also included. These modifications were made to the Tiger I from November 1942 until July 1943.
