It was named the Curtiss Hawk 75 and, after further refinement, it became one of most advanced aircraft in the World War II early years. The Curtiss H-75 is the most popular Curtiss aircraft. It was produced over 1,000 times and was used in more than a dozen different countries, from South Africa, to Finland, to Brazil, to China. The Curtiss H-75 was used by France the most. It came in different series, A1 through A4, with differing armament and engine specifications. More than 400 were produced. The Armee de l’air used them as the best fighters in the first months of World War II. This type of aircraft was used by many French Aces, along with Polish and Czechoslovak Pilots that fought for France. Many Curtisses, which were evacuated after the armistice to French Africa where they constituted the Vichy aviation, formed the backbone. All serial Curtiss H75s had radial engine. When the airframe was adapted to the Allison inline engine, a completely new and legendary aircraft was created: The Curtiss P-40, produced in over 13,000 examples.
