The German Panzerträgerwagen Tank Waggon
The German Panzerträgerwagen Tank Waggon was a specialized rail transport vehicle designed to carry a Panzerkampfwagen 38(t) light tank. It was developed in response to the need for a mobile and rapid deployment platform for the Panzer 38(t), which was one of the most important German tanks in the early years of World War II.
The Panzerträgerwagen Tank Waggon was based on a standard German flatcar, but it was modified with a number of features to accommodate the tank, including:
- A reinforced platform to support the weight of the tank
- A system of ramps and rails to allow the tank to be loaded and unloaded from the car
- A series of locks and restraints to secure the tank in place during transport
The Panzerträgerwagen Tank Waggon was a versatile and effective platform for transporting the Panzer 38(t). It could be used to move the tank over long distances quickly and easily, and it could also be used to deploy the tank directly to the battlefield.
The Panzerträgerwagen Tank Waggon was first used in combat in 1940, during the German invasion of France. It was subsequently used in all of the major theatres of World War II, including the Eastern Front and the North African campaign.
The Panzerträgerwagen Tank Waggon remained in service with the German Wehrmacht until the end of World War II. It was a valuable asset to the German military, and it played a significant role in the German war effort.
