The subject: The Semovente M43 da 105/25 “Bassotto. The M43 105/25 ‘Bassotto’ self-propelled cannon was developed by Italian industry in order to improve the offensive capabilities of armoured vehicles, self-propelled artillery and the Royal Italian Army. The M43 was built on a modified, widened and lowered chassis from the M15/42 and equipped with a mounted Ansaldo howitzer. The Ansaldo Fossati factory in Genoa produced 14 M43 da105/25s and four M15/42s (as well as 12 M42M da75/34s), ready to be delivered to the Regio Esercito by July 1943. The M43 was introduced to limited units in 1943, and participated in Italian front operations. It is considered to be the most powerful Italian armored vehicle during World War II. Due to its balance between mobility and firepower, it was effective both in offensive and defensive operations. The Germans renamed it “StuG M43 with 105/25” after the armistice. “
