From Special Hobby
1/48th scale
Kit No #SH48229
The Fiat BR.20 Cicogna (Stork in Italian) was the only Italian twin-engined bomber in service with the Regia Aeronautica during World War II. The Italian Air Ministry published specifications in 1934 for a heavy twin engine bomber. On 10 February 1936, the first BR.20 was launched for the first flight. It entered service on 9 September that same year. First production batches were equipped with a Breda D.R dorsal-turret type, which had two 7.7mm machine guns. Later production batches were equipped with the Breda D.R dorsal-turret, which had a 12.7 mm machinegun. Fiat BR.20 was shorter in range than the SM.79 but had a larger payload, and better bomb storage. It achieved much better bombing accuracy compared to other Italian bombers. Italy deployed its BR.20 Fiats on the Frankists’ side during the Spanish Civil War. Thirteen aircraft total were stationed in Spain. The aircraft took part in bombing raids on Teruel, and in the Battle of Elbro. They proved their worth. The Fiats were already a little outdated at the beginning of World War II. However, they still flew over Southern France, Albania, Yugoslavia and Greece in 1940. In response to the gradual deterioration of the Fiat BR.20 in the early 1930s, a new version BR.20M, a modernised model was developed and produced by 1939. BR.20 Fiats also were exported. Venezuela’s only Fiat purchase is of marginal importance; however, the second Fiat export from Italy was far more important. Japan purchased 82 BR.20 machines at the end of 1937. Japan was fighting in China from July 1937, and heavy bombers were urgently needed. BR.20s began to be used as combat aircraft in February 1938. The BR.20 suffered significant losses as they operated without protection at long distances. They also did not like the complex and difficult maintenance. The box art shows the machine returning from a raid in Manchuria damaged by fire caused by Chinese fighters. The machine returned from a raid in Manchuria damaged by fire from Chinese fighters, which is also shown in the box art.

SMB-2 Super Mystere, ‘The First French Supersonic’
From Special Hobby
1/72nd scale
Kit No #SH72523
The French SMB-2 Super Mystere was the first Western Europe-produced jet fighter to break the speed of sound in level flight. The SMB-2 was the strongest French fighter until the Mirage III came into service. When the Mirage entered service, Super Mysteres were moved to fighter-bomber squadrons, where they flew very successfully for many years. The
SMB-2 was also exported successfully to Israel where it proved its superiority against an overwhelming Arab force. When the Israelis got their Mirages just like in France, they relegated the Super Mysteres to the role of fighter-bomber. The Israeli SMB-2s later in their careers had the engine of their aircraft replaced by a US unit. The remaining SMB-2s, which were removed from service and sold to Honduras when they were retired, are now in storage. This model kit includes parts for both engines. This kit also includes a resin cast ejection seat for the Honduran Super Mystere
