The Subject: German gun crews…
During World War II, German anti-tank gun crews played a crucial role in the Wehrmacht’s defensive strategy. The crews used a range of anti-tank guns to combat the threat posed by Allied armored vehicles. German Panzerjager using a Pak 40 to fight Yugoslav Partisans in Bosnia, 12 January 1944. Panzerjagers had open cases, which exposed the crew while allowing greater flexibility and mobility. The Jagdpanzer, on the other hand, had a casemate that was closed, which provided better protection to the crew. The crews were taught to set up quickly, fire accurately and aim under pressure from advancing tanks. The Pak 40, for example, could penetrate the armour of most Allied tanks at ranges up to 1,800 meters.
