The Subject: the M29C Weasel used in Artic & Antarctic regions:

The M29 Weasel is an WWII era designed all-purpose tracked vehicle used to supply frontline troops over difficult ground when wheeled vehicles were unable to be used. The M29C in Arctic has a modified cabin similar to the one included in this kit. The cabs of these vehicles were modified depending on the purpose. The M29 Weasel was produced by the Studebaker Company of Indiana, but not until the Norway project was abandoned. Two U.S. Navy M29 Weasel tracked vehicle on the Antarctic ice during Operation Highjump. The covers are simple canvas. The M29C included a bow and stern floatation compartment that increased freeboard while providing convenient extra storage. Twin rudders have improved the boat’s steering. The overall length increased by almost 16 feet when they were combined. In order to improve self-recovery, a capstan was added to the bow. A U.S. Navy Supply Convoy in Antarctica, led by an M29 Weasel.

After World War II, the majority of M29s was sold as surplus to resorts that offered winter sports. The majority of M29s were sold off as surplus, often to winter sports resorts, after the war. In the end, 25 Weasels were used to support this event. The Weasel may not have had a chance to shine at the VIII Winter Olympiad, but it has played a number of different roles in various theatres of operations around the globe.
