The Subject: The Messerschmitt P.1101

The Messerschmitt P.1101 was a German experimental jet fighter concept developed during the final phase of World War II as part of the Jagernotprogramm (Emergency Fighter Programme). This programme was initiated by the Luftwaffe in 1944 to accelerate the development of advanced aircraft capable of countering the growing Allied air superiority.

The P.1101 was notable for its pioneering variable-sweep wing design, which allowed the angle of the wings to be adjusted for optimal performance at different speeds, an innovation aimed at improving both subsonic and supersonic flight capabilities.

Several GI’s and odfficers posed next to this futuristic design that was discovered in the flesh in the middle of the mountainous countryside after the war. A litteral barn find!

Although the prototype’s construction began in 1944, it was never completed due to the end of the war in 1945. This picture was taken at the Messerschmitt Oberammergau base. This picture was taken at the Messerschmitt Oberammergau base.

The Messerschmitt P.1101 stands as a testament to the ambitious engineering efforts of the Jagernotprogramm and represents a significant milestone in the evolution of jet-powered flight and aerodynamic innovation.

The kit:

Das Werk continues to build these late WWII designs that went beyond the physical or were on the cusp of development at the end of the war in the larger, 32nd scale. The futuristic design of the kit and its small size should make it a hit, particularly in the larger scale. We think people will like the possibilities this kit promises.
