Guideline Publications provides sample pages of their upcoming Warpaint No.143 for the Boeing B-29 and B-50 Superfortress.
Boeing launched its signature bomber to be used in Europe, and then embarked upon a journey into the unknown. Boeing Aircraft Company’s B-29 Superfortress was launched with a number of untested technologies. The company, despite development issues and the loss of its prototype and Chief Test Pilot Eddie Allan pressed on with the creation of long-range strategic aircraft. Bomb groups on the opposite side of the Himalayas launched further attacks against Japanese targets. With increasing combat experience, the emphasis shifted to destroy as many production facilities as possible. This was done primarily by firebombing known targets. The world was forever changed. Two atom bombs used against Hiroshima & Nagasaki showed the power of atom. The Cold War began when the Japanese surrendered. The B-29 was retired from service at the beginning of 1960 after having been used in different roles for most of the 1950s. It is one of the biggest aircraft built during World War II. From 1950-1954, the Royal Air Force operated the B-29 under the name Washington. The re-engined B-50 Superfortress Lucky Lady II was the first aircraft in history to complete a non-stop flight around the globe. This latest in the essential Warpaint series offers a comprehensive look at the famous bomber, including its history, development and service details. It also includes colour artwork by Sam Pearson as well as scale plans.
