The Jagdpanzer 38 is a Sd. Kfz. Kfz. The Romanian Maresal tank destroyer was the inspiration for this project. The Jagdpanzer 38 had to be cheaper than the more ambitious Jagdpanther or Jagdtiger designs from the same time period. It avoided mechanical problems that plagued larger armored vehicle by using a proven chassis. The chassis was widened and extended from the Panzerkampfwagen (t), with modified suspension, larger road-wheels of Praga TNH prototype reconnaissance tank and an upgraded engine. The engine was a 160 PS Praga AC/2 six-cylinder engine, controlled by a Praga Wilson gearbox with 5 forward gears and 1 reverse. The chassis was modified to allow for a larger gun and more armor than the regular Panzerkampfwagen (38(t)) tank. Its combat weight (versus 9.
